Creative Ecology at Kibbutz Lotan

Fun, creative, practical, good looking solutions

No water used and no smell; would you believe it?Let's not fool ourselves; being eco-minded is one thing, putting it into practice is a different thing altogether. Some would argue that the effort isn't economically sound, and others say it is time-consuming. Some see themselves as the champions and saviours of our planet, while others believe that somehow technology will prevail and find solutions to the current ecological crisis.

We at Lotan have been listening to all these voices openly and without prejudice. Admitedly, we have not been able to solve all eco-problems in our own backyard; however, we concluded that the best way to contribute to the eco-cause was by incorporating new elements into the equation: fun, creativity, practicality and aesthetics.

Our young visitors are having a ball playing and creating with mudThe guidelines given to our workshop participants are quite clear: the solution must be creative, useful, pleasing to the eye and feel, and importantly enjoyable to its creators.

Luckily enough, we found out that our approach has struck gold with many of our visitors, particularly with the young generation. And here we are having fun, creating, and educating all people, young and old how to participate with joy in the cause of conservation, recycling, and assisting mother earth to sustain itself a little bit longer.

The Center offers a variety of creative ecology day tours and workshops, all custom-tailored for individuals, families, and groups.

A good example of creative solutions to recycling is Frank Kanto's artistic ecology. Click here to view a exhibition of his work.
