Eco Update Summer – 2005Shalom to everyone, Here on Lotan and in the eco – park “eco-kef” it is getting very hot. The organic garden is as usual a jungle, which is good for the migrating birds, but maybe just too many weeds for our liking. Together with Itamar we are already planning the September season as it’s too hot to plant new things now, except the sweet potatoes. We may change the concept a little, change the crops, size of garden, pick your own, we are not sure yet? The January 2005 green apprenticeship has ended, we learned a lot together and they left behind a few things for us to remember them by, benches, solar ovens, a new bird watching shelter and ringing station, t-shirt designs, a geodesic dome and seed balls and a women’s soccer game. A big thanks to Ariel, Dana, Dina, Scott and Itamar. It looks like the September 2005 Green Apprenticeship is full but the December Green Apprenticeship is still open to applicants, it will be a special one with what looks like to be the first building for the new green apprenticeship EcoCampus neighborhood, so please pass the news on to friends etc... To the Eco-Update Summer 2005 in pictures » Get out your diaries we are aiming for a big grand opening hopefully in September/October for the new tea house project, maybe we will call it the captain compost café (Alex’s brainwave”). Yes it’s finally happening, with the generous financial help of “chamat”/ Israel Government Tourism Development Corporation we are building a new entrance to eco-kef, car park, teahouse/pub –eco cultural center and more composting toilets to accommodate the demand of our visitors. We have been practicing already with the pizza recipes using the infamous alberto taboon “traditional mud oven” and are dusting off the fender stratocaster (electric guitar) for some rock n’roll at the opening……. Keep posted and hope to see you (or your friends and family!) here, Mike Kaplin To the Eco-Update Summer 2005 in pictures » Contact Lotan Center for Creative EcologyLeah Zigmond |
