Eco Update August 2002
Marla and Puff thank the Eco-volunteers
Summer
is still very much upon us but work goes on. What do they say - “Mad dogs and Eco-volunteers go out in the midday sun.”
During these summer months we take a break from the green apprenticeship
program and are grateful for the eco-volunteers that pass through
during the summer months. (Yasmin, Tom, Ester, Tamar, Sharon, Ram
& Tal.) Together we mend, clean and improve many a favorite
spot in the Eco-Kef park (Kef is Hebrew for fun). Just a few examples
are puff the magic dragon, Marla the enormous turtle, not forgetting
my kids favorites the kangaroo/bear and elephant. They all go through
a process of mending the mud work, oiling and painting.
The Living Dome – forever changing
With
special help from Dafna Yaalon & Dina Shufaniya the living dome
has gone through an amazing transformation. The living dome was
our first tire structure that we filled with old bottles, plastic
and other rubbish and then covered with mud. It took 144 tires and
we grew tea herbs out of the backrest!
After almost 5 years, the living dome had seen some changes but
Dafna & Dina’s design and artistic creativity has brought
us to a new level.
The Watsu Pool
Hedai’s Watsu pool (Shiatsu in water) is a big success. The
water is a constant (body temperature), which means you get twirled
and maneuvered till you come out a new person.
We have been adding a composting toilet, showers, shade and urinal
all built with our own special design and hand built features, it
wouldn't be the Lotan Watsu pool without it.
September 2002 Green Apprenticeship has just
begun..
On the second of September the new Green Apprenticeship started
in fine tradition with the opening seminar, tours and getting to
know each other with fresh fruit from the Gan Bayit* and dates from
plantation.
This time round we have:
- Aaron from the U.S.A.
- Benji also from the U.S.A.
- Maya from Israel
- Tom from England
- Yasmin from Northern Israel
We have already been getting our hands dirty in the organic garden
and building a new bench next to the composting toilet that’s
turning into an urban educational house and garden….
That’s all for now, hope to see you soon
