Eco update September 2002
September
is a busy month, full of Jewish festivals, still HOT and lots of
projects going on in the 'Gan Bayit' - our organic garden and “Eco-Kef”
– the eco-park.
The new Green Apprenticeship team are settling
in well, working and studying hard, and even finding time after
work to make a garden and experiment with mud next to their house.
This month we started building the Recycling Activity Workshop in
the south west corner of Eco-Kef. We
are lucky to be getting generous help from the Israeli
Ministry
of the Environment. The project could take 2 years as it’s
a collection of buildings and landscaping projects. It will enable
us to work with groups of all ages in the hottest summers and coolest
winters. There will be a large activity building made out of straw
bales and mud (18X12 metres). We will be able to run workshops,
arts and crafts, make recycled paper, solar ovens and lots more….
Most importantly, it will provide us with an infrastructure for
conducting activities and teaching in a fun way all there is to
teach about the 3 R’s – Reducing, Reusing and Recycling
(woops, forgot the fourth R’- Rethink)
An important part of the “Recycling Activity Centre”
is the main entrance to Eco- Kef and
the special journey you go through to arrive at the centre….
Stay tuned and be part of the journey, till next month.
See you soon, Mike Kaplin.
