Solar panels for Lotan's Eco Campus

Kibbutz Lotan is a young community, founded in 1983 in Southern Israel’s Arava Desert.  We came together to create a community based on a modern liberal approach to Judaism that strives to fulfill values of equality between the sexes, equality in work, and a responsible relationship with the environment.

Kibbutz Lotan has been awarded the 2006 Award for Ecovillage Excellence by the Global Ecovillage Network.

The Center for Creative Ecology is our Environmental Education Institution rooted in “Tikkun Olam” -- the Jewish concept for repairing and transforming the world. The Center offers tours, workshops, the Peace, Justice & the Environment College Semester and the Green Apprenticeship Permaculture and Ecovillage Design and Training programs.

Students live in earth-plastered strawbale domes on the EcoCampus – a prototype energy efficient neighborhood with many other sustainable technologies.

SOLAR photovoltaic panels produce CLEAN ENERGY by harnessing the energy of SUNLIGHT. Using solar panels is an act of TIKKUN OLAM as there is NO POLLUTION or CARBON DIOXIDE emitted into the atmosphere when generating ELECTRICITY.  Solar panels in ISRAEL’s southern ARAVA produce more electricity than almost any populated area in the WORLD.  Solar energy will REDUCE Israel’s use of fossil fuels, and will further the MITZVAH of creating a clean free ATMOSPHERE for all of us.  Lotan’s ECOCAMPUS will be a CARBON - NEUTRAL neighborhood.  It serves as a living classroom for SUSTAINABLE systems.

OUR CURRENT FOCUS

Help us to develop our Net Zero Energy Student EcoCampus Neighborhood:An Eco-Responsible Way to Reduce Ecological Footprints is to convert sunlight into clean electricity using Solar Panels!

A 100 Watt Solar Panel costs $850.

Each year this panel will produce 230 kWhr (kilowatt hours) of electricity and over 5,600 KWhr during its lifetime - enough to power an average American household for 6 months and keep 11,000 pounds of CO2 out of the atmosphere!

Help us with our workOur Goal: 120 Solar Panels – to offset 30 tons of CO2/ year - Join With Us!

Lotan Leads Greening Efforts in Israel by developing many earth-caring technologies and environmental education programs. We invite you to Join With Us – Acting Locally and Thinking Globally. Make Your Donation Online or mail check to:
